[linux-uvc-devel] Integrated webcam on MSI WS60-2OJ

Hi guys,

I recently got a new MSI laptop WS60-2OJ with an integrated fhd webcam. I
am running my laptop on Arch but the webcam is not detected by the uvc
module. I ask MSI about what kind of webcam this is and get the following
information :

SYS/OPTICAL MODULE/CMOS CAMERA MODULE/2.0M FHD 1920x1080/W
MIC*2/SUYIN/HF2046-T830-OV02/RTS5830/OV2724/HEIGHT 2.99+/-0.2mm/ ONLY FOR
VBUS 5V/FOR MS-1772,RoHS COMPLIANCE

So it seems to be a SuYin webcam but nothing in the usb devices list seems
to be linked to it.
Here is my dmesg log : http://pastebin.com/FtCrUj4M
And my lsusb result : http://pastebin.com/TBMs3hHg
And, just in case, my lspci result : http://pastebin.com/bfX2wNf2

Did anybody have to deal with this kind of webcam before ?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

Please read the FAQ here http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/faq/

I am wondering why it is not listed in lsusb output. If Windows is
installed on this machine, please check the VID/PID of the webcam from
Windows.

Which of those devices shall the webcam even be?

Bus 002 Device 007: ID 1770:ff00
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 8087:8000 Intel Corp.
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 8087:07dc Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:8008 Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0bda:0129 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTS5129 Card Reader Controller
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

(None of those is a UVC device, obviously. The first one is the LED
panel, I believe.)

Perhaps you need to activate it in the BIOS? (This is a wild guess,
obviously.)

Thanks both of you for your replies.

Actually, the big trouble is that the webcam does not appear on the lsusb.
I checked all the devices, and none of them is the camera. That's why I was
hopping that maybe someone here get the same problem.
I checked all the options of the uefi (and I have updated this one) but
nothing is specific to a webcam. I tried several configurations for usb but
get nothing more.

I don't have Windows on the laptop, so I cannot try to get the vid/pid of
the device. But it seems I will have to install it to get through this
problem...
